Last night TG4 screened the story of the remarkable Nancy Corrigan - a female pilot  born in Achill Island, Co Mayo  in 1912, who moved to the USA in 1929 aged 17, worked as a nanny and spent  all her savings on flying lessons.
In 1932, she flew solo after only 4.45 hours of training and became an overnight celebrity. During the Second World War, Nancy trained US fighter pilots. After a long and varied career, she died in 1983.
